Something Special

Monday, August 27th, 2007
Meet C. and his proud mom & dad. I wanted to photograph this little cutie the first time I saw his beautiful eyes and huge grin. He is so full of energy and curiosity- it made for a fun shoot. The other reason I wanted to photograph him, was to provide some photos for his mom to send to daddy who is serving in the military. Well, it just so happened that dad had a few days of leave before his deployment to the middle east. This morning we did a photo shoot and I am so glad- not only was it fun for me, it was meaningful.

I get goosebumps when I think about how significant the sacrifice this little family makes in each of our behalf. Each one of them is giving up something for the greater good, and they seem to do it with a positive attitude. Having a connection with them makes the war seem real to me, in a way that the evening news does not.

Here’s a sneak peak from the session- it was truly my privelege to photograph this family.

{These photos make my heart smile. I was reminded today of why I love being a photographer!}

Eight Grown-ups and a Baby

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Most extended family groups that I photograph tend to be buzzing with little kids. This session had a different pace, as the family has one grandchild and many well-behaved grown-ups. It was a fun challenge to get the baby’s attention with her favorite green monster toy. This is a great family and I sure enjoyed getting acquainted with them! You may recognize little S. from my website- she’s the fairy princess with tutu, wings & crown!

Some favorites that I’d love to share:

{S. nearing her first birthday and ready to run!}

{ . . . or she’s ready to crawl. Whichever way gets her to her destination. I love it when parents feel free to play with their kids, down on the floor, right where the action is!}

Leg Huggers and More

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007
{ Should I stay or should I go?}
{One for the money . . .}

{What a great pair these two make!}

{A little sweet bribery on a stick-lollipop anyone?}

{Dad + Mom + 2 leg huggers = beautiful family}

This shoot was so fun . . . it is actually part of a large family group session. I will be posting more of those just as soon as I have a chance!

Just Us

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Here are some photos of just us. We’re enjoying the summer and trying to keep cool in this record heat (mostly by staying inside and running the A/C!). M. is 8 months now and just sprouted his first tooth and started crawling (really it is more of a breast-stroke) two weeks ago. He keeps on amazing us with his expert baby skills.

{He loves sucking that lower lip in- it is his trademark look}

{A. gets in little bed bouncing exercise on mom & dad’s bed, because her own bed is a bottom bunk.}

{Our little exploradora- S. keeps cool at an outdoor family concert we went to on Saturday. The girls were well stocked with capri suns & nerd candies. We’ve decided now that one box per child constitutes an overdosage on sugar.}

{A fun candid from a neighborhood block party on the fourth of july, hence the patriotic colors.}

Summer Smiles

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Any of you out there who may be following this blog may have noticed my lack of blogging over the past month. I noticed too . . . but life has been beyond full so the blog has been neglected. But, I’d rather neglect the blog than my kids.

I have plenty of photo stuff to share, and mural stuff, and life stuff. Here are a handful of smiles from a session last week:

{C. in his patriotic colors, and as alert as ever. He’s the star of one of my most recent newborn sessions in an earlier post}

{big sis has a huge grin and her giggles are contagious!}

{I love this carefree capture of a young family. This is my kind of family photo- real. life in motion. happy.}

{I will admit. This one actually gave me goosebumps when I was going through the photos following the shoot. To me the connection between dad & daughter is so genuine- I just love this one!}

Sweetness in a Silver Dish

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

From today: two little redheads & a blondie. You may recall them from an earlier post. Baby E. has the most incredible blue eyes, they are piercing. Enjoy browsing!

{baby sleeping soundly in a . . . silver dish? I do love the light streaming in from the sunny window. What do you think?}

{Snuggly. Soundly. Sweetly.}

{Three sisters: you can see how close they are. You know that they are there for each other. You know they love being sisters.}

{This image really speaks to me. I am caught up by her intense gaze, yet it is peaceful and calm. I love her beautiful eyes.}

Answered Prayers

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I pray often. Sometimes out loud, sometimes a whisper prayer. At times, a silent prayer. And today, all of the above. Sometimes, it is a simple prayer in my heart. When I have a deep concern for someone I find myself alternating between being focussed and distracted–going through a gammut of feelings and emotions: hope, concern, gratitude, joy, relief, sadness, love–then I must accomplish a task and for a moment my silent prayer must wait.

Today I could not stop thinking about this handsome little baby. At five weeks old, and he has spent all but two weeks in the hospital. For the past couple of days he has been the focus of my prayers, along with many others who are truly rallying around his family. He is the son of a friend in the neighborhood, and I have been humbled by just how many people want to reach out and help in some way. I know he is in the thoughts and prayers of many.

So tonight, I made arrangements to go and visit baby H. & his mom at the hospital–camera in tow (of course). I felt that photographing him today was one of the best things I could do (second to praying for him) . . . here are a few photos I’d like to share with his mother’s permission:

{proof that prayers are answered: baby H. resting peacefully tonight.}

{I am so inspired by this determined little guy- barely older than a month and has already undergone 6 or 7 surgeries. He keeps on going, despite setbacks and emergency operations and more surgeries in the future, he still keeps on going.}

{I think I know where H. gets a good dose of his resillience from . . . his mama. As I looked through the photos from tonight, her happy countenance really struck me. She still finds joy, even through all she has been through this week alone (her baby had 4 surgeries this week!) J- your example means a great deal to me.}

To baby H:

{Hold on kiddo. You’ll get through this. You’ll be stronger than ever. Miracles do happen, and they have happened for you. Miracles will continue to happen. Prayers have been answered, and they have been answered for you. We pray for you.}

* Today was another day that reminded me why I am a portrait photographer-there is so much love and human emotion out there, just waiting to be captured through the lens and into the heart.

Please say a little prayer for baby H.

Sunshine

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

I’ve been so fortunate this past week to enjoy three great sessions with plenty of little cuties to photograph! Sunshine on the first day of spring and sunshine in the eyes of a sweet sister and brother. I just love it when something so huge as LOVE is somehow captured in a freeze-frame less than 1/60 th of a second.

{the true definition of a contagious smile}

{I could keep going with photos of this little guy!}

He is a true miracle . . . born 2 months early and less than 4 pounds and here he is- a healthy eleven months. Amazing!}

St. Patrick’s Day Fun

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Here are a few favorites from Saturday. The shoot was for the younger sister’s baptism invites, and there are so many beautiful ones to enjoy. BTW, invites will be ready in the next day or two!

{I couldn’t help but snap this one of big sis. decked out in her St. Patrick’s Day green. I love the urban acid action on this photo!}

{simply beautiful}

A little about me . . .

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

I am happily married the “boy next-door” ands we are parents to three beautiful children (as you can see, even their toes are gorgeous!).
I come from a family of artists: painters, furniture designers, musicians, actors, screenwriters, photographers, architects and teachers. (Yes, my family is that big! 9 kids in all). I am passionate/ obsessed about all things creative. I have been blessed with an abundance of opportunities to utilize my creative energy!
I must admit, I have been bitten by the blog bug. I have recently been inspired by several enlightening and worthwhile blogs and have finally decided to join in on the fun. I make no guarantees as to whether reading my ramblings will add to your life or even your day. I hope you will be pleasantly surprised, and if anything at least the photos will add a little interest. :)
So visit often, share your thoughts, and we’ll see where this takes us . . .
