There She Goes

September 2nd, 2007

. . . growing up so fast, like they said she would. She’s off to kindergarten and there’s no turning back. Please allow me to get a bit sentimental, as I am not prone to crying but I do feel the same emotions minus the tears.

This girl is normally not so chipper in the mornings, but all last week she was eager, giddy and just so excited to get to school. After summertime boredom at home, I think she was ready for a solid routine and some action-packed fun and learning.

So the first day of school arrived- and it took almost a month worth of her crossing out the days to get here! On the way to school I told S., “Do you know that you could make 20 new friends today?” Her eyes widened with excitement at that amazing possibility. Here are some images that capture that first day of school:

{Ready}

{Time to go?}

{Giddy. Anxious. Sweet.}

{There she goes. She gets so focussed that she almost doesn’t look back, but she knows that I need her to –and for my sake she does.}

Here’s to the next 13 years until her HS graduation . . .

Note- I didn’t have time to cry after dropping her off, because it immediately began to rain and we had to quickly run for cover.

My LBFF

September 2nd, 2007

The son keeps us on our toes these days. He is a stair-climber, potting-soil digger, unidentifiable crumb tast-tester, emotion detector, and true sweetheart. It has been said of M. that I am his “BFF” (ie. “Best Friend Forever”). I can attest to this, and I will be the first to admit, I do make a great friend. I keep this boy safe, fed, clothed and loved, and that is HARD WORK!

{This is M’s “I’m drooling, I’m teething. See my two-teeth grin, with eyes bluer than blue” look}

{This is M’s “laugh-out-loud, how can you resist me mom, I’m a sweetheart” look}

{This is his “catch me while you can, don’t you love my beautiful lashes” look}

Love you, my little best friend forever.

This Is Crowded Happiness

September 2nd, 2007

Here’s a recent digital scrapbook layout I created. The journaling reads,
“At times I am overwhelmed as a mother to three. They all need my attention, and usually at the same time. Last week while sitting on the stairway reading with S. and having little sis and baby bro climbing on us, I felt a surge of frustration hit me.
S. exclaimed in her cheery 5 year-old voice, ‘This is crowded happiness!’
She was right! It brought a smile to my face and my attitude improved. Find the joy amidst the chaos. ~August 2007″

Puppeted Woodland Fairies

September 2nd, 2007

My two girls have a vast collection of hand puppets. This is because I love puppets and secretly wanted to be a puppeteer after attending a puppet show as a child. So I buy them. They come out to play once in a while. One day they became the ultimate fairy fashion “must-have” and I just had to document them. The following fairy wardrobes were completely designed by my 3 & 5 year-old daughters. I hope you get a laugh out of them, as I surely did!

{You may recognize the stylin’ curly hair-do. It was a vital component of Daddy’s Napoleon Dynamite Costume a couple years ago. He even won a costume contest with it!!}

Something Special

August 27th, 2007
Meet C. and his proud mom & dad. I wanted to photograph this little cutie the first time I saw his beautiful eyes and huge grin. He is so full of energy and curiosity- it made for a fun shoot. The other reason I wanted to photograph him, was to provide some photos for his mom to send to daddy who is serving in the military. Well, it just so happened that dad had a few days of leave before his deployment to the middle east. This morning we did a photo shoot and I am so glad- not only was it fun for me, it was meaningful.

I get goosebumps when I think about how significant the sacrifice this little family makes in each of our behalf. Each one of them is giving up something for the greater good, and they seem to do it with a positive attitude. Having a connection with them makes the war seem real to me, in a way that the evening news does not.

Here’s a sneak peak from the session- it was truly my privelege to photograph this family.

{These photos make my heart smile. I was reminded today of why I love being a photographer!}

Babe in a Bonnet

August 27th, 2007

A babe in a bonnet- precious K. in her blessing gown and bonnet was a great sport for her photo session. She was so expressive and sweet, and I loved how each family member has such a connection with her. Even the family poodle wanted to be in on the action!

{My title for this one: “Are you kidding me?”}

{To this wonderful family- thanks for a great photo session!}

Eight Grown-ups and a Baby

August 27th, 2007

Most extended family groups that I photograph tend to be buzzing with little kids. This session had a different pace, as the family has one grandchild and many well-behaved grown-ups. It was a fun challenge to get the baby’s attention with her favorite green monster toy. This is a great family and I sure enjoyed getting acquainted with them! You may recognize little S. from my website- she’s the fairy princess with tutu, wings & crown!

Some favorites that I’d love to share:

{S. nearing her first birthday and ready to run!}

{ . . . or she’s ready to crawl. Whichever way gets her to her destination. I love it when parents feel free to play with their kids, down on the floor, right where the action is!}

Super Boys

August 25th, 2007
Time to post these fun photos of a great trio of boys. They were such good sports with the August heat and plenty of photos! I love how they have many differences but a definite thread connecting them as brothers.

{I HAD to post this one of J.–he looks like a superhero!}

{This is called a “wrestle-hug.”}

{I love the varied expressions the boys have, especially in this photo!}

Wedding Bells Ring Away

August 25th, 2007

I’ve been so excited to share some of my favorites from this wedding a week ago! They are truly a beautiful couple, with so much spunk and sweetness all mixed together. I enjoyed working with them to design their wedding invitations and was so thrilled to be their wedding photographer.

{D & M in front of the SLC Temple . . . and a little PS action going on. Up close it looks like aged linen!}

{the Beautiful Bride and her sparkly flip-flops}

{D. kissing his bride . . . again :) }

{Four sisters + secret whispering = one blusing bride!}

{As you can tell, I have plenty of favorites from this day . . . I’d love to post ’em all!}

{So in love.}
