Bluebird Family

February 1st, 2014

My oldest daughter S. and I spent a good portion of the afternoon creating a series of photographic portraits of our peg doll collection. It was time well spent! I was able to teach her some basics on studio lighting set up, and also how to manually select focus points on my dslr camera. We used a tripod and a macro lens to capture tiny details on the peg dolls. It was her idea to break out the Christmas tree! Meet mama and papa bluebird and their soon to be son/ daughter! (The egg is made of sculpey clay, baked and a few speckles added with paint. Nest is wound up yarn and twine, knotted and twisted to make a suitable home for this sweet little family). Tweet!

Finding Heart

January 26th, 2014

heart garland studiocharm

Today I gathered Valentine colors of felt from my bag of scraps and a few select pieces of beautiful bamboo felt that my friend Melissa generously supplied me with. I cut out various hearts– 1″ tall up to 3″ tall freehand (folding each scrap in half and cutting a symmetrical half heart) and turned them loose in a pile. This project was assisted by my four year old C. and her playgroup buddies who helped to sort and organize the hearts by color, size, etc. When it came time to sew them together, C. stood by my side and supplied me with a random very sophisticated pattern of fuzzy hearts to be linked in a straight stitch in white thread on my sewing machine. I then sewed all of them in one continuous strip from top to bottom and we ended up with about 7′ of garland! We are currently trying it out as a window swag in our living room. We’ll see where it ends up for Valentine’s Day. This was a fun project with kids and was very simple and quick to make.

I also love this scripture- I read it again today and wanted to share it with you. My heart is full.

Bearly a Sketch

January 17th, 2014

We’ve been painting up an extremely diverse “extended” family of little wooden peg dolls around here. Here’s the next set ready to come to fruition:

Professional Cutter For Hire

January 17th, 2014

My sweet four year old just made my day with her sincere compliment, “Mommy, you are one good cutter!” Little does she know how hard I’ve had to work at my cutting skills. I still remember my kindergarten report card including a strong suggestion that “Amy needs to work on her cutting.”

Throughout the past year one of the favorite shared activities I enjoy with my four year old is when she brings me scissors, a sheet of paper and a special request for an animal to be cut out. I freehand cut out the shapes and she draws a habitat and colors the animal, then glues it on the background. I have to say her coloring skills and creativity surpass my cutting skills any day! We have volumes of this collaborative art process to show for it- so fun!

Cobblers and Cobbwebbs

January 15th, 2014

Earlier this week during our morning carpool run I challenged my kids to find out what type of profession a”cobbler” is. Many guesses were made as to how this job related to our peach cobbler we enjoyed for Sunday’s dessert, perhaps it is someone who cleans up cobbwebbs, etc. I gave another clue that a cobbler is a profession that used to be very much needed but in our day and age it has become pretty rare. My kids were bursting with ideas and laughter but nobody knew the correct answer so I created a bit of a competition as to who could reply to me first with an accurate description of a cobbler.

Later that night, my sweet daughter A. (9 years) ran to me to share her new insight into what  a cobbler does for a living. With this challenge I doubt my kids will ever forget what a real cobbler does, even though they will not likely meet one any time in the near or distant future.20140117-133539.jpg

So I share this story as it relates to my dusty old website–a bit of a cobbler in her own right, long neglected but still useful and sentimental to me. I am finding a new purpose in reviving her old “sole” by attaching new tread, threading new laces and dusting out the corners.  A bit of polish will do her good, and will hopefully be just what I’m looking for as a means of expression and sharing the creative endeavors I continuously delve into. Studiocharm shall be my comfortable, familiar friend with a little more spring in her step for now. Thanks for visiting!

Summer Days Gone By

July 23rd, 2009

I can’t believe I have not posted since MOTHER’S DAY! Yikes! I have been alive and well over at my tilt blog
in case you’ve been worried.

We are having a busy summer, mostly staying close to home and finding ways to spend a lot of our time and not a lot of $$. Things have really picked up with the studio and I am enjoying a variety of photo sessions and it has been quite enjoyable.

Baby C. is going to be three months old! Where has the time gone? She is a smiley girl, with lots of chub and she is as sweet as ever. I recently posted some updated pictures of the kids on my Tilt Blog in case you want to take a peek.

I am in the middle of moving massive amounts of data from one drive to another so I do not have access to my millions of images. This post will have to be “image-less.” Just imagine me yawning at my computer, surrounded by four kids on a HOT afternoon. 😉

Glad To Be

May 12th, 2009

. . . her Mother.

She’s got me wrapped around her little finger, and she knows it! I just wish I could catch a few zzzzzzz’s when she does (23 hours a day) . . . but with three other kiddos to love that just doesn’t happen.

. . . and this is some of what I did on Mother’s Day:

{this chair was purchased mostly for DH as a “Sunday Nap Chair.” I love to snuggle with the kids in it- and I would say I use it more than the Papa Bear. Perhaps it is “too soft” for his liking? Anyhow, it is great for a Sunday Snooze, because it is in our sunniest room in the house, and it reclines really far back so you can actually get some rest in it. Baby C. seems to like it too.}

I hope all of you Mothers and Mothers-to-be enjoyed a beautiful, sunny, snuggly Mother’s Day on Sunday. I am so thankful for my own Mom and Mother-in-law who made me feel extra loved on Sunday too.

Be Still My Heart

May 8th, 2009

{Baby C on her due date–12 days old}

A huge heartfelt THANK YOU for all of the wonderful comments, phone calls, visits, surprise packages in the mail, yummy meals, play-dates for the older kiddos, carpools, lovely gifts, sweet and tiny outfits for sweet and tiny newborns, childcare, movies on loan, grocery trips, and love. We couldn’t have done it with out your help.

More pictures to come. We introduced baby C to the studio yesterday- just a simple, quiet outing with M and C while the big girls were at school. C was amazing to photograph and was such a good sport. We’re off to a good start. I have plenty of photos from the first (almost) 2 weeks that I hope to share when I have a minute.

{3 days old and only 24 hours a day to sleep}

We’re In Love . . .

April 29th, 2009

. . . with our brand new baby girl! We’re so glad to be home now and settling in to a new routine as a family of six. Baby C’s arrival came late Saturday night following a swift and intense labor and delivery. She is 6 lbs. 13 oz. & 19.5″ long. She’s by far our tiniest baby yet she is healthy and robust and her proportions seem perfect. She’s eating like a champ and working hard to add some chub onto her petite frame.

Our sweet babe has won us over with her beautiful eyes, heavenly scent and purely amazing spirit packaged in such a perfect little body. My recovery has been quite remarkable and there’s no doubt we have been blessed to feel the concerns regarding the baby’s growth quickly fade away. Her sisters and brother are smitten with her and I feel spoiled that being the mom I get to hold her the most!

I will post more details and pictures soon, but for now– a quick sneak peak!
